"Present study is a slightly revised version of the doctoral dissertation of the author. It searches for the sources of the mystical tradition of the throne. In the first chapter of Ezekiel, God is described as sitting on a throne resembling a giant zephyr. He is like standing on the top of a lofty chariot, which was drawn by heavenly angelic creatures. The power of this tradition was so great that it was studied by the rabbis of the first and second centuries AD, who at times they praised it and at times they forbid it. It is a fact, however, that it left its imprint on the sacred texts of rabbinic Judaism, of the Qumranites, the Gnostics, and the Christians."-- Publisher's description.
